Bramhills Celebrate 50th Anniversary

PALMERSTON – Mr. and Mrs. Clendon Bramhill of Palmerston celebrated 50 years of married life with a family dinner and open house Saturday. They were married March 28, 1918.
The bride of 5O years ago was the former Violet Bridge, the fourth eldest in the family of 12 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Bridge of the town-line west. The Bridge "home place" is the farm presently occupied by Stanley Bridge, one of Mrs. Bramhill’s younger brothers.
Mr. and Mrs. Bramhill were united in marriage by the late Rev. T. E. Meldrum of the Baptist Church, Palmerston, a church, which no longer exists. Following their marriage they moved to the Bramhill "home place" now occupied by their eldest son Ivan. They farmed there for approximately 25 years. Mr. Bramhill was born on this farm.
During the last year or two on the farm, Mr. Bramhill started a feed mill, known as Bramhill Bros., in Palmerston. In 1944, the Bramhill family moved to Palmerston where they lived for eight years.
In 1951, Mr. Bramhill erected the main building of Bramhill's Service Centre just west of Palmerston and in 1952, the family moved to the apartment over the service centre. The service centre is now operated by son, Roy Bramhill, and son-in-law, Walter Quanz. In1961, Mr. Bramhill organized a grain and seed cleaning business, C. Bramhill and Son, which he operates with his son, Laverne. The family dinner at the Blue Barn, Listowel, was attended by 52 people, 48 members of the immediate family. Rev. and Mrs. D. Sargeant of Palmerston and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Prosser of Kitchener. Master of ceremonies for the dinner was their son, Percy of Newbury.
Between 100 and 125 friends, neighbours and relatives dropped in at the Bramhill home Saturday afternoon and evening with gifts and good wishes.
At the open house, the four daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bramhill poured tea, while their four daughters-in-law served the guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Bramhill have a FAMILY OF EIGHT, - Ivan, who lives on the Bramhill home place on the second of Minto; Mrs. Russell (Jean) McGuire of Wingham; Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Pugh of Plattsville; Mrs. Norman (Bernice) Miller of R. R. #3 Palmerston; Mrs. Walter (Ruby) Quanz of Palmerston; Roy and Marilyn of Palmerston and Percy of Newbury.
